How to Care for Jute and Cotton Rugs
Natural-fibre rugs are made to be lived on, but a little care keeps them looking their best for years. Sharing this advice with your customers reduces returns and builds trust in the products you sell.
Day to day care
Vacuum regularly on a low setting to lift dust from the weave. Rotate the rug every few months so it wears evenly, and use a rug pad to stop it sliding and to protect the surface underneath.
Dealing with spills
Blot spills straight away with a dry cloth rather than rubbing, which pushes liquid into the fibres. For jute, use as little water as possible, since excess moisture can affect the fibres. Cotton blends are more forgiving and can be spot cleaned gently.
- Vacuum on low, never with a beater bar on jute
- Blot spills, do not rub
- Rotate for even wear
- Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to limit fading
With basic care, a well-made jute, cotton or mixed rug holds up to daily use. See our rug range for examples.
